THE MONTANA XPS |
Music lovers considering the XP (or either of its two larger siblings) are seeking a level of
realism that only a few select loudspeakers can achieve. Belied by its massive 250 lb. cabinet and sophisticated architecture, the XP is unexpectedly efficient, with its 93dB rating. Backed by quality amplification, this four-way, seven-driver design delivers wallshaking bass, a soulful midrange and shimmering high frequencies, a combination made all the more appealing when enhanced by the XP’s extraordinarily three-dimensional soundstage and astounding dynamics. The XP’s driver complement includes two 10” woofers, two 7” mid-bass drivers, two 4” Kevlar midranges, and a Montana ScanSpeak Revelator tweeter. Although the XP is intended mostly for use in larger environments, it can work well in medium-sized rooms if care is taken to position it properly. The speaker is a favorite with professional musicians and recording engineers who value it for its refined sonic honesty. It also has devotees among home theater fans who appreciate its ability to re-create a multidimensional soundfield. The XP stands just over five feet tall, with a base measuring 16” x 18” (W x D). Frequency response is 20Hz-22kHz, with crossover points at 80Hz-500Hz and 4kHz. The XP is an excellent candidate for bi-wiring.
